Who was LaVerna Evans

le

LaVerna Evans attended Teachers College in Normal, Illinois.  Throughout her career, from 1928-1940, Mrs. Evans taught Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd and 3rd grades.  She continued to work as a substitute teacher in O'Fallon through 1974.  She was nominated for an Excellence in Teaching Award by a School Board Member.  She had no children of her own, but felt as though she had hundreds because of all the children she taught.  On the first day of school, she always read this speech:

"I'm a happy person, but I feel there is a time for learning and a time for playing.  You're here to learn."
